Expertise

How to find a needle in the haystack

2017-11-01

The need for expert competence that can contribute to the coming calls within Horizon 2020 is tremendous. At the same time, experts like researchers, rarely has experienced EU-project coordinators in their network. In order to build the perfect consortium, high-level match-making is needed.

It is time for the final round of calls for Horizon 2020 (H2020), the world’s largest research and innovation program. The calls for 2018-2019 were published on the Participant Portal at 27th October 2017. Long before then, IMCG, was well initiated with the work programme drafts so that work is planned and aligned with the cycle of Horizon work programmes.

The University of Haifa wants to contribute with their expertise in areas such as Climate and Border Security in coming H2020 calls. IMCG matches the researchers’ competence with coordinators that can build and lead a consortium.

University of Haifa knows what they want
IMCG identifies relevant Horizon 2020 calls and potential experienced coordinators for researchers at the University in Haifa, Israel, who want to contribute with their expertise in the next round of calls.
– The University of Haifa wants to contribute with their expertise in areas such as Innovative Health and Sustainable Food Security in coming H2020 calls. They want to find experienced partners who can build and lead a consortium. IMCG matches the researchers’ competence with coordinators that have experience of working within their expert field, says Ulrika Wahlström, Innovation Manager, IMCG.

IMCG knows H2020
There are many work programmes based on EU Commission’s societal challenges and each of these contains approximately 100 pages of information. IMCG is very well initiated in the content and can therefore identify calls that match the researchers’ expertise areas. One call was selected per researcher and from this competence was matched to form the winning team to win a H2020 proposal.

After working with EU-projects for over 10 years, IMCG is used to put together winning consortia for EC’s Framework Programmes. Not only does IMCG have years of experience working with H2020, but does also have a broad network of contacts throughout Europe. This enables the identification of consortia members, as for instance an experienced coordinator that would potentially be interested in working together with the Israeli researchers in the next H2020 call.
– The University of Haifa is not the only one looking for top consortia team members, and they have a great chance in getting coordinators of excellence since IMCG has been working with the preliminary work programme drafts to get ahead and plan our work, says Magnus Andersson, Head of Business and expert on project funding, EU-proposals & projects and business innovation at IMCG.

Match-making with the right consortium
Alongside, the National Contact Point (NCP) for each EU member, whose role it is to give support for EU proposals, IMCG is a consultancy firm that helps researchers match-making with the right consortium for their research areas, in its extension also contributing the European Innovation Council’s agenda of supporting actors developing breakthrough innovations with the potential to create new markets and boost jobs, growth, and prosperity in Europe.
